Having only been road riding for the last 4 years and steadily building up my endurance, I really wanted to mark my 40th year with something huge, and Colossus was just the challenge I was looking for!
A frighteningly beautiful and challenging route of immense distance and elevation. The hardest thing I’ve ever done!
There were a great many, but perhaps the feed station in Bridport. We had been cycling all day. It was almost dark, and we had ‘only’ covered 150 miles! The thought of doing it all again was very demoralising and it took every ounce of willpower to continue on.
1) Increase volume slowly and focus on long steady rides. 2) Don’t avoid hills as there are a lot of them! 3) Get confident riding at night as a lot of time can be made or lost during the night stage.
My Garmin cycle computer. Having loads of stats to focus on helps to motivate and pass the time.
Storck Aernario Platinum stupidly fitted with a standard up front and an 11-25 at the back! A bigger range is highly recommended!
